(About)
jess hay
As a creative who began her studies with a Foundation Diploma from University of the Arts London, Hay moved to Glasgow to complete a Bachelor of Arts Honors degree in Fine Art from the Glasgow School of Art. Hay’s pratice has always encouraged labour-intensive processes combininig technology with traditional handmaking techniques to create textile works. Hay is interested in making clothing from canvas, dyeing fabric and threads using natural pigments, embroidery and rug tufting. Her work explores new ways to translate the human form: rejecting the traditional method of life drawing such as long periods of artist viewing subject. Instead, Hay uses shapes to decide the journey a drawing takes, proposing freedom of expression and creative adventure when drawing the human form. Trained in Photography, Hay has many photographic works available to view on this site and still continues to make film photographs.
